Mission week 42
Mission week 42 (07/22/2024)
Yoooo! What's up everyone?? This next week will be the last week of the transfer and the last week of the mission for my current comp! so that is crazy , he is actually finishing his mission, that is wild! but let's talk a bit more bout this last week. It was definitely a strange week but it was a good week. we had a million lessons and sadly 6 baptism dates fell through:( but... we still ended up with 2 baptisms outta nowhere! We were kinda doin mini divisions a lot this week with our buddies who happen to be our DL and we managed to throw 2 people in the water! it was hype cuz those people were super excited too!
The first guy, Kaun, is a teen about my age and he was pretty quiet and didn't say much. but i started talkin to him about his life, his interests, his work and of course fishing haha. Soon enough this quiet guy was laughing and talking about all sorts of things so I cracked the code and opened him up! and he was even happier after his baptism!
The other baptism was a bit different. There was a recent convert mom who was baptized almost a year ago and her daughter Prescila wanted to be baptized finally. so we prepped the baptismal font the day before and planned to arrive early before the baptism to turn on the heater for the water, cuz it's wintertime here and freezing cold. But... the day of the baptism they said that they had an event to go to and would have to do the baptism wayy earlier and would be in 45 minutes... ope.... so me and my comp rushed there to turn the heater on and had 30 minutes to heat up... but... that thing needs like 2 hours or more cuz it was cold as ice!!! they people got there and so we started the baptism meeting. when the time came for them to enter the water the Elder went in first trying to not show the coldness of the water... but then the lady put one foot in the water and screamed ahhhhhhgggg its colddd!!! i felt a little bad but i bout died of laughter inside me, but i could not let it show.
The Elder stayed in the water trying to tell her it will be quick, and that it is not that cold. and the lady was crying that she wanted to be clean and not have her sins any more, trying to get in the water a little deeper. luckily she really had a deep desire to be baptized and the mom was sorta blocking the escape door from the font and she eventually made it in and was baptized and was happy after.
Random things of the week:
-Lit Division with Elder Matamoros from Honduras. found a cool rich investigator and he had a home gym.... then he handed us boxing gloves and pointed to the punching bag saying “go at it!” It was dope.
-Mate has the yellow herb which is just older and fermented to be a bit more bitter, and the green herb which is the same thing but it is fresher and not fermented and less bitter and more flavor of the herb and plant itself. This Chimarrão stuff is cool. and terrere too.
-Pday we played games at the institute building. I can win at ping pong, pool, air hockey and lots of other games but holy crap this one game i had zero luck and it is a game based on luck! It is like the game called "Sorry" it is called "Ludo". ya that game sucked lol but i like the game, i just had zero luck haha.
This week shoutout to my great aunt Donna Martin! Love ya!
My message I wanna share this week is based on the blessings and love of God we receive through our Families.
This week I had the opportunity to go to the Temple and do sealings of children to their parents. It was a super spiritual moment for me. We began and I said a prayer to help me feel something to maybe understand a bit more or just feel the Spirit. When it was my turn to do it, I was guided to remember a few experiences. As you all know you grow to appreciate family more on the mish cuz you lose contact with people as life goes on but you always have your family. friendships can end, but family doesn't. not even at the grave. Families are a blessing given to us by God and are meant to be Eternal when we are sealed together with the Power and Authority of God in his Holy House, the Temple. On the mish I have been able to feel the love my family has for me no matter what, they are always there, and always will be because we are sealed by the power of God. I was doing sealings for others and felt the immense love my parents have for me. the love i have for them. how this love reflects a tiny part of the eternal and everlasting unmeasurable love our Creator and Heavenly Father has for us. he gave us our families. and i got to help reunite some of those families who have that same love and have been waiting for their family for many years. I felt a touch of the feelings of those families' love for eachother. and it meant more to me because my appreciation for my family has of course grown as well.
God loved us so he sent us Families, and he sent his Son to show the way to live with them forever with our Father in Heaven.
God is Good! God is Great! And his love is Greater!
Until next week...Tchau!
-Elder Martin
